In an exciting culinary development, Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa in South Africa’s Welgevonden Game Reserve has teamed up with acclaimed chef Luke Dale Roberts to redefine the safari dining experience. The partnership brings a fresh, gourmet touch to the lodge’s already impressive 5-star offering, promising an elevated food and beverage experience for guests.
Luke Dale Roberts, known for his innovative cuisine, has introduced a series of multi-course menus, expertly paired wines, and signature cocktails, exclusively for Mhondoro’s resident guests. His team is also providing hands-on training to the lodge’s existing staff, ensuring ongoing culinary excellence and top-tier service.
One of the highlights of this partnership is the transformation of the traditional boma dinner. This quintessential safari experience, which involves dining around a campfire, is being reimagined into a sophisticated, cultural showcase under the African stars. Luke Dale Roberts and his team are also introducing new concepts, including a Harvest Table lunch and revamped game drive snacks, creating a diverse dining adventure for guests throughout the day.
Mhondoro’s CEO, Fritz Breytenbach, highlighted the focus on locally sourced, organic ingredients from the lodge’s own Eco-Farm, saying, “Our cuisine sets us apart, celebrating local and seasonal produce.” Guests arriving at the lodge will first check in at the Eco-Farm’s new Welcome Lounge, where they can experience the farm-to-table approach that underpins the culinary offerings.
